Additional Description

Porcelain and pottery marks - Sorau marks

Porcelain factory in Sorau (Żary) was founded by Gustav Otremb in 1888. Gustav Otremba Porzellanfabrik Sorau NL started production in the buildings of the former nail factory. A year later, Franz Böhme joined the company. In 1892, Böhme bought Otremba's shares and became the sole owner of the company. In 1901 the factory was transformed into a limited liability company (Porzellanfabrik Sorau GmbH), and the new owner was Fritz, sym Franz.

World War I was not a good time for the porcelain industry. Most of the skilled workers have been mobilized, some foreign markets have been lost and the internal market has shrunk. In 1918 the Sorau factory was purchased by the merchant Gotthard Curtius. Just a few months later, the company was taken over by the Christian & Ernst Carstens consortium. The factory was renamed C. & E. Carstens Porzellanfabrik Sorau NL Ernst Carstens died in 1923, but his heirs continued to manage the company.

The factory in Sorau regularly strengthened its position thanks to exports to European countries and the United States. In the 1930s, the number of employees increased to 400.

During World War II, the factory continued production despite war restrictions. The plants were destroyed in February 1945.
