Vilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844-1920) museum painter

Vilhelm von Gegerfelt (1844-1920) was a Swedish painter.
Born in Gothenburg, Gegerfelt was the son of the architect Victor von Gegerfelt. From 1861 to 1863 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy, at the Royal Swedish Academy from 1864 to 1867, and then in Düsseldorf until 1872. Then he went to Paris, where he developed a new technique linking Alfred Wahlberg as one of the first Swedes to represent a contemporary breakthrough in Nordic art . He traveled to the north coast of France, to Italy and to England, painting landscapes over the lagoons of Venice and English chalk cliffs, in addition to scenes of summer evenings in Sweden. His work can be seen at the National Museum in Stockholm, at the Gothenburg Art Museum and at the Skagens Museum. [1] [2]

Gegerfelt exhibited in Monaco since 1883 and won a silver medal at the exhibition in Vienna that same year. In Paris, he sold his paintings to Prince Bassano and Goupil & Cie. [3] (in Italian)

Gagerfelt later spent his life in the fishing village of Torekov in the south of Sweden.
