Carl Tielsch founded a factory in Stary Zdrój (Altwasser) in 1845. It quickly became the second largest porcelain factory in Silesia. After twenty years, Altwasser already employed 1,400 people. The products from Tielsch's factory quickly gained recognition for their quality and artistic beauty. Products from Altwasser were even compared with the products of factories from Berlin or Meissen.
